This is the second time we have decided to take the drive up to the Bonneville Salt Flats just for fun. This place is SO RAD and I 100% recommend you go just for fun sometime. There's not much to do... or look at... but it's kind of an out-of-this-world type of place -- ESPECIALLY IN THE SUMMERTIME.
Last time we went, we were very ill prepared for any kind of photos. Joe was like, "Hey, wanna go see the Salt Flats?" and me, not knowing anything about it other than it's made of salt (can confirm... I did taste it), I was like "HECK YES!". It was so rad! The sky was all sorts of colorful and the it looking like an icy lake in the middle of summer was pretty cool.
This time, we had it all planned out. We were going to get there just before golden hour, take some fun photos, and then Joe would go to town on landscapes. Just one issue-- EVERYTHING WAS WHITE. There was dust or inversion or something, but the sky was WHITE all the way until it got dark. But ya know what? That kind of made it even cooler. I had NEVER seen anything like that before. There were many spots where the sky and the horizon just blurred together and you couldn't tell where the sky began and the horizon ended.
Our friend, Ben, came along with us and we had lots of fun taking photos! He and Joe ran as far as they could to the mountain and back while I stayed back to make a scheduled phone call. They're silly and I adore them.
Ben also took some fun photos for me and Joe!
Once it got dark, we decided to drive up to Wendover (the Nevada side) to get some food. There's this cute little PINK restaurant called Salt Flats Cafe and they have really good food at a reasonable price! Just note, they only take cash. We had to get some cash from the gas station before we went there, but it was definitely worth it. :)
Our tummies were full and our hearts were happy and we took off back home. The drive is only 2.5-ish hours from our house, but man, it feels closer to 3.5 hours just because there isn't really anything to look at. STILL WORTH IT THO. 10/10 would recommend for a day trip!
